ABOUT
FRUIT FLIES
Fruit flies are
a very small fly which migrates from queensland. They actually
sting the fruit just as they begin to appear and then the
fruit fly lava grows on the inside of the fruit. If you look
in the early mornings or late afternoons you can see them
flying around. The fruit fly is only the size of a little
wasp.
ABOUT FRUIT FLY LAVA
- Fruit
fly lava is little maggots that grow inside the fruit and
causes a lot of trouble to farmers as if there crop gets hit
with the fruit fly it can wipe out a whole orchard in one
season. If you happen to get fruit with the lava in it put
it into a plastic bag and tie the top of the bag real tight
then sit it in the hot sunlight as this will kill.
NATURAL
FRUIT FLY TRAP
- We
have just over a half acre of ground and we are growing peaches,
apricots, plums, pears and prunes and we use no poisons at
all. My husband gets soft drink bottles and leaves the lids
on them and cuts a little opening in the side of the bottle
then mixes soapy water and sugar together and puts about 1
cup of the mixture into each bottle and then hangs one in
each tree. If there are any fruit flies they get attracted
to the sweet sugar in the bottle and go into the water and
die. We have had success with this trap for 10 years now.
FRUIT
FLY SIGN
- If
you see this sign please do not carry any fruit past it. There
are bins for you to dispose of your fruit or you can stop
at the sign and eat it but do not carry it past the sign or
you could get stopped and you will recieve a hefty fine as
fruit fly is very dangerous to the fruit farmers and it would
ruin there family business.
